Here at Grand Teton Ancient Grains we love to talk about the benefits of Organic Khorasan Wheat along with tips on how to incorporate it into your diet.

Health Benefits of Organic Khorasan Wheat

Organic Khorasan Wheat is a powerhouse of nutrients, with a higher protein content compared to modern wheat varieties. It contains up to 40% more protein, making it a great choice for those who are looking to increase their protein intake, especially vegans and vegetarians.

Organic Khorasan Wheat is also high in fiber, which is important for a healthy digestive system, keeping you feeling full and satisfied, and reducing the risk of heart disease. One serving of Organic Khorasan Wheat provides a significant portion of your daily recommended fiber intake.

In addition to protein and fiber, Organic Khorasan Wheat is also a good source of essential vitamins and minerals like magnesium, phosphorus, and B vitamins. These nutrients are essential for maintaining good health and can boost your energy levels, improve your mood, and support a healthy immune system.

Cooking with Organic Khorasan Wheat

Organic Khorasan Wheat has a nutty flavor and chewy texture that makes it a great addition to many dishes. You can use it as a substitute for traditional wheat in a variety of recipes including bread, pasta, cereal, and baked goods. It can also add flavor and texture to soups, stews, and salads.

It’s important to note that while Organic Khorasan Wheat is considered to be more digestible than modern wheat varieties, it still contains gluten and may not be suitable for individuals with celiac disease or severe gluten sensitivities. However, some people with mild gluten sensitivities find that Organic Khorasan Wheat is more tolerable, making it a great ancient grain choice to add to their diet.

  1. I’ve been baking my own bread for years, but recently decided to make the commitment and purchase a Komo grain mill. That of course precipitated a deep dive into grain varieties, which ultimately led me here – the obvious destination for anyone serious about this whole healthy grain thing! For starters, I tried a small bag of this incredible organic Khorasan and was blown away with the flavor and texture. So today I ordered the large 48lb bag. Coupled with a 7 gallon bucket of your organic hard white wheat from my previous order and 25lbs of your amazing organic soft white wheat berries, I’m now set for the Zombie apocalypse. Which may be here sooner than any of us thought!

Thank you for sharing such a thorough and insightful article. I gained a lot of valuable information and truly appreciate the extensive research you invested in it!

  3. I have been on a fairly strict diet of eating according to my blood type, which is Type B.
Regular wheat slows the digestive and metabolic process, causes food to be stored as fat, not burned as energy. and it inhibits insulin efficiency.
This has limited me on a lot of foods. But I found a new (for me) organic cereal that has Khorasan wheat, along with other grains my body is good with.
Can you tell me if Khorasan wheat does the same as other wheats in our bodies? I was encouraged to try it because it’s an ancient grain from the Middle East.
    thank you.

Hi Becky, I don’t know how grains interact with blood types. Khorasan certainly doesn’t behave exactly the same as modern wheat in the body because it hasn’t been so adulterated by man.

My entire family is excited about the Khorasan bread, which we have every day. It is very delicious every time! Our current favorite is when we add a cup of blended black beans and cumin to the batter, We especially appreciate the high nutrient profile, and the improvements in our health. We would like to thank you for contributing to our improved health and caring about us . . . your customers.

  5. what is the flavor and cooking differences between Einkorn and Khorasan Wheats? I have only used your Einkorn berries and am looking to get more involved in making all breads for our family: Sourdough, baguettes, etc. thanks

    1. Hello Sue!

That is so exciting that you’re getting more involved with bread making. It’s a fun adventure!

Khorasan and Einkorn are pretty different. Khorasan tends to be dryer and requires more water. They each have a unique flavor, but both are pleasant and popular among bread makers.

  6. I love Khorasan in bread making. The dough comes together so nicely, it really is a pleasure to work with. Makes delicious bread.
